High on a chequered stage, above a sea of open mouths, the first story plays again. One figure reaches for the light. One kneels. One sits in silence, a little crowned head in his hand. All around them tongues spill like rivers, dice tumble, a frog leaps into the dark. Between a giant’s teeth a green apple waits, patient and shining. The game has always begun this way.
