Tongue-Tied

The original knot. A single tongue loops and coils through the dark, tangling over and under itself until, here and there, it softens into lips, as if trying to speak and finding only more of itself in the way. Glossy and restless, it twists through every word left unsaid. This is where the red ribbons that bind the later figures began: one tongue, tied in endless knots, still searching for a mouth to finish the sentence.
